Hello Non-Toxic Friends!
Children’s makeup has quietly become one of the most overlooked sources of harmful chemical exposure, and most parents have no idea what is actually sitting inside those tiny tubes of glitter and gloss. Recent research continues to show that many children’s makeup products contain hormone-disrupting chemicals, heavy metals, artificial dyes, and synthetic fragrances. Items marketed as “fun,” “gentle,” or “safe for kids” often contain the very ingredients linked to endocrine disruption, neurological concerns, and long-term health risks.
Body glitter, face paint, nail polish, lip gloss, and fragranced products are some of the biggest offenders. The problem is not the makeup itself, but the fact that children are far more vulnerable to these ingredients. Their bodies are still developing, their detox pathways are not fully mature, and their skin absorbs more compared to adults. Small exposures over time can add up.
Let’s look at what is actually in these products, why children are especially sensitive to them. We’ll share a homemade makeup recipe, and some awesome non-toxic makeup items for your kiddo’s stocking. You do not need to ban makeup altogether. You just need brands that use clean, natural ingredients without artificial dyes or synthetic chemicals. Small shifts create long-term protection.

So that reel caused an uproar... If you caught one of my latest Instagram reels, you probably saw the comment section explode. Not because of the message or the toxins I talked about, but because everyone wanted to know what was under the sheets. People zoomed in, guessed brands, and tried to figure out whether I was sleeping on the same things I tell them to avoid. It turned into a full investigation, and it honestly made me laugh. The real answer is simple. I sleep on Aizome. Their bedding is the cleanest I have found, made with organic cotton and plant dyes, and it contains no chemical residues or strange coatings. While the comments kept rolling in, I felt relieved knowing I had already done the research. |
If you want to know your bedding is as clean as your intentions, Aizome is a solid place to start.

Why Kids’ Makeup Is More Toxic Than You Think
Walk through the toy aisle or scroll through any kid-focused shopping page, and you’ll see more children’s makeup kits than ever before. They’re colorful, sparkly, giftable, and marketed as harmless fun. Kids want them because they look grown-up. Parents buy them because they seem like a safe treat. But behind the glitter, the neon colors, and the cute packaging, there’s a story that doesn’t get told often enough:
The Hidden Kitchen Hazard Sitting Right Next to Your Sink
Most people assume the most significant toxin risk in their kitchen is tucked away somewhere in a pantry or hiding inside processed food packaging. But the truth is far more unassuming.
Is Your Skillet Really As Safe As You Think?
The pan sitting on your stove can have just as much of an impact on your health as the food on your plate. Cookware materials vary widely, and not all of them are created equal. Some release harmful chemicals when heated, some leach metals into food, and others require careful handling to stay safe.
The Surprising Reality Behind Your Daily Brew
For many people, the day doesn’t officially begin until that first sip of coffee hits the system. It’s comforting, familiar, and feels like a small ritual that helps anchor the morning. But what most don’t realize is that the daily cup they rely on might also be delivering a cocktail of chemicals the body never asked for.
Non-Toxic Tip of the Week
Read Makeup Labels Like a Pro

Most makeup looks harmless at first glance, but the ingredients list tells a very different story. Many products, especially those marketed to kids and teens, contain chemicals that can disrupt hormones, irritate the skin, or accumulate over time to increase the body’s toxic burden. The safest approach is to get comfortable reading labels and knowing what to avoid. Once you understand a few key terms, spotting safer products becomes much easier.
Start by scanning for fragrances. Any label that simply says “fragrance” or “parfum” can hide dozens of undisclosed chemicals, including phthalates that interfere with hormone function. Next, avoid artificial dyes such as Red 40, Yellow 5, or Blue 1, which often contain impurities and heavy metals. Parabens are another common ingredient group to skip, listed as methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, or anything ending in “paraben.” These preservatives are known endocrine disruptors.
Also watch for PEG compounds, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives like DMDM hydantoin or quaternium-15, and metals like aluminum or titanium dioxide in powdered products. These ingredients are unnecessary and can be easily replaced with cleaner alternatives. Choosing brands that fully disclose their ingredients and use mineral or plant-based colorants is one of the simplest ways to reduce exposure. Reading the label takes only a moment, but it gives you control over what goes on your skin and into your family’s daily routine.
Non-Toxic Recipe of the Week
Here are two simple, fully non-toxic makeup recipes you can make at home. Both are free of artificial dyes, fragrances, preservatives, and heavy metals. They also use ingredients that are safe for kids and gentle on sensitive skin.
Homemade Non-Toxic Lip Gloss

Ingredients
1 teaspoon organic beeswax pellets
1 teaspoon organic shea butter or cocoa butter
1 teaspoon organic coconut oil
1 to 2 drops beetroot powder or hibiscus powder for natural tint (optional)
1 drop pure vanilla extract or food-grade essential oil (optional and only if kid-safe)
Instructions
Place the beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil in a small heat-safe glass bowl.
Melt using a double boiler or place the bowl over a pot of simmering water until everything liquifies.
Remove from heat and stir in your natural color powder until fully combined.
Add a small drop of vanilla or a kid-safe essential oil for a hint of flavor.
Pour into a small glass or stainless-steel lip balm container.
Let it cool and solidify for about 20 minutes before using.
Homemade Non-Toxic Eye Shadow

Ingredients
Choose one or mix colors from the list below.
Arrowroot powder or organic cornstarch (base)
Cocoa powder (brown shades)
Activated charcoal (black or gray)
Beetroot powder (pink tones)
Spirulina powder (green tones)
Turmeric (gold or warm yellow tones)
Instructions
Start with 1 teaspoon of arrowroot powder in a small bowl.
Add your color powders in very small amounts until you reach your desired shade.
Mix thoroughly until the pigment is even.
For a pressed eyeshadow, mist the mixture lightly with witch hazel and press it firmly into a small tin.
Let dry completely before using.
Optional add-in: A tiny pinch of shea butter or jojoba oil will help it adhere better, but use sparingly to prevent clumping.
