Summer travel season is in full swing, and if you have a flight coming up, this one is for you. Flying is one of those things we do without thinking much about what it asks of our bodies. Between the recycled cabin air, the dry, pressurized environment, the time changes, and the long hours spent sitting still, even a short trip can leave you feeling foggy and run-down. The good news is that a little preparation makes a real difference. This week I am sharing exactly what I pack to fly cleaner and feel like myself on both ends of the trip.
Did you catch my recent carousel post on The (4) Kitchen Swaps I’d Make FIRST (in order)? You don’t need to gut your kitchen. Most of what gets sold as “safe” is just better packaging, and none of it shows up on the label. | |
Non-Toxic Tip of the Week
How to Fly Cleaner (What I Actually Pack)
Flying is tough on the body in ways we do not always notice. The cabin air is recycled and dry; you take on more cosmic radiation at altitude than you do on the ground; hydration drops quickly, and crossing time zones throws your internal clock off. None of it is cause for panic, but a little support goes a long way. Here is what I bring:
☐ Turn your water into hydrogen water with Fastonic: Fastonic is a molecular hydrogen tablet you drop into a glass of room-temperature water. Molecular hydrogen (H2) acts as a selective antioxidant, and since flying tends to ramp up oxidative stress and leave you dehydrated, it is an easy one to reach for in the air. Drop a tablet in, wait about 90 seconds, and drink it while the water is still cloudy.
☐ Support cellular detox with CytoDetox: CytoDetox is a liposomal zeolite that comes in a small dropper bottle, which makes it an easy one to travel with. The drops are designed to support your body's natural removal of the everyday toxins we pick up from things like recycled air and the environment, and the liposomal delivery is made to work beyond the gut, at the cellular level. Take a dropperful under the tongue, swish for about 30 seconds, then swallow, ideally on a mostly empty stomach and followed by plenty of water.
☐ Bring a stainless steel water bottle: Cabin air is dehydrating, and a good insulated bottle lets you fill up past security and keep sipping through the whole flight. Bonus, it doubles as the perfect vessel for your Fastonic tablet. Skip the little plastic cups when you can.
☐ Pack your own non-toxic snacks: Airport food is a minefield of seed oils, refined sugar, and artificial everything. A few packable, real-food snacks keep your energy steady and keep you out of the vending machine. Think grass-fed jerky, raw nuts, a piece of fruit, a square of dark chocolate, or homemade trail mix (recipe below).
☐ Chase sunlight and grounding when you land: The fastest way to reset your internal clock after a time change is natural light. Get outside into the morning or midday sun as soon as you can, and if you are able, kick off your shoes and put your bare feet on grass, sand, or soil for a few minutes. That combination helps cue your circadian rhythm to the new time zone and can take the edge off jet lag.
I go deeper on all of this in my latest blog post, including exactly how I time my supplements around a long flight and my full non-toxic carry-on checklist:

Recipe of the Week
Grain-Free Trail Mix: The Best Non-Toxic Travel Snack
Airport snacks are almost always built on seed oils, refined sugar, and a long list of things you would never keep in your own pantry. This trail mix fixes that, and it takes about five minutes to throw together the night before a trip.
It is a simple mix of raw nuts and seeds, unsweetened coconut flakes, and a handful of dark chocolate chips, with a pinch of sea salt to pull it all together. No seed oils, no added sugar, just real food that travels well and keeps everyone satisfied from the gate to the ground. Portion it into small containers or reusable bags and you are set for the whole trip.
Travel should leave you with good memories, not a week of feeling wiped out. A few simple choices, the right water, a little antioxidant and binder support, real food in your bag, and some sunlight when you land, add up to a smoother trip and an easier landing. Thanks for being part of the Non-Toxic Dad community and for making the small, practical changes that keep your family feeling their best, even on the road. Safe travels, and we will see you next week!
