Hello Non-Toxic Friends!
Is your skillet or pan as kitchen-safe as the label claims? This week, we are taking a closer look Iat the cookware most people use every single day and what is actually safe for a non-toxic kitchen. We break down what you should keep and what you should reconsider to build a kitchen that truly supports your health. Before we get started, check out what we made this week!
What’s happening:
This week, Tuula and Araylah have been turning our home into a little workshop of non-toxic holiday magic. They’ve been stringing together homemade garland using nothing more than a needle, some yarn, and tray after tray of dried orange slices they helped prepare. It is one of those simple projects that fills the house with color and a sense of calm.

Sometimes they mix in cranberries or other natural elements for a pop of red, and the whole thing becomes a beautiful, completely non-toxic decoration for the tree or mantel. Watching them create something by hand, without plastic or synthetic materials, is a reminder of how meaningful the simplest traditions can be.

What’s Really Hiding In Your Underwear?
Most people think about clean food, clean water, and clean products, but almost no one thinks about what’s in the fabric they wear closest to their most sensitive areas. Here’s the truth: Conventional underwear can contain 300+ synthetic chemicals, including BPA, phthalates, flame retardants, petroleum-based dyes, and even PFAS forever chemicals. These compounds sit directly against the skin, one of the most absorbent areas of the body, and can be easily absorbed, especially with heat and sweat. |
That’s why I made the switch to NADS Underwear, the brand I trust for a safer, cleaner option. Their underwear is made with certified organic cotton, free from toxic dyes and chemical finishing agents, and designed to support skin and hormonal health, not work against it.
It’s one of the simplest and most impactful swaps you can make for daily exposure reduction.

Blog Spotlights
Is Your Skillet Really As Safe As You Think?
The pan sitting on your stove can have just as much of an impact on your health as the food on your plate. Cookware materials vary widely, and not all of them are created equal. Some release harmful chemicals when heated, some leach metals into food, and others require careful handling to stay safe. Understanding what’s in your cookware and what happens when it gets hot is an essential part of building a low-toxin kitchen.
Are You Really Getting the Minerals Your Body Depends On?
Many people assume they’re meeting their daily mineral needs simply because they eat “pretty well” or take a multivitamin. The reality is that modern lifestyles, depleted soil, filtered water, high stress levels, and highly processed foods make mineral deficiencies far more common than most people realize.
Is Your Home Quietly Harming Your Health?
Even the coziest home can contain elements that work against your long-term health without showing immediate signs. Indoor environments often trap pollutants more effectively than outdoor spaces, which means the very place meant to restore your energy can slowly chip away at it instead. Taking a closer look at what surrounds you each day is a crucial step toward creating a home environment that supports long-term health rather than undermining it.
The Truth Behind Store-Bought Almond Milk
Almond milk has become a go-to choice for individuals seeking to transition away from dairy, avoid inflammatory ingredients, or simply lighten their daily routine. The marketing makes it look clean, simple, and plant-powered, which is precisely why so many cartons end up in grocery carts without a second thought. But what most people don’t realize is that the almond milk lining store shelves is often far from the homemade alternative they imagine.
Non-Toxic Tip of the Week
What to look for in a Non-Toxic Pan?

If a pan is made with Teflon, it should go straight into the trash because the forever chemicals can contribute to cancer, hormonal disruptions, and a range of health concerns that are never worth the convenience of a no-stick surface.
Ceramic-coated pans are a step up, but the research is still mixed. High heat can cause lead to leach from some coatings, which is not ideal for cookware that often sits on a hot burner.
Stainless steel is the most common option, and if you use it, choosing 18/0 over 18/10 can help reduce nickel exposure, since nickel is a neurotoxin.
Carbon steel and cast iron require a bit more care, yet they remain the preferred non-toxic choices for achieving a natural non-stick surface.
The de Buyer Mineral B Series is a solid option for carbon steel, as its beeswax coating is free of unwanted additives. Pure ceramic is another safe alternative. It is not the best for non-stick cooking, but it is a clean and reliable choice for simple tasks such as sautéing vegetables.
Non-Toxic Recipe of the Week
These cut-out cookies combine heirloom einkorn flour with monk fruit sweetener for a clean, traditional holiday cookie that avoids refined sugar while keeping the texture and flavor you expect from a classic Christmas cookie. Einkorn is the original form of wheat, never hybridized, and easier for many people to digest. Monk fruit offers natural sweetness without additives or artificial sweeteners..
