Most people spend their days under artificial light without realizing what they’re missing. The sun provides a full spectrum of light, including infrared wavelengths that penetrate deep into the body and energize mitochondria (the small power plants inside every cell of your body). Full-spectrum light fuels energy production, balances hormones, and helps regulate your circadian rhythm. Indoor lighting, even bright office bulbs or light streaming through a window, cannot replace that natural spectrum.
Sunlight also influences serotonin and melatonin, the brain chemicals tied to mood, focus, and sleep. Morning light exposure triggers serotonin production, while evening light cues melatonin release, helping the body know when to rest. When full-spectrum light is missing, that natural rhythm becomes disrupted, leading to fatigue, restless sleep, and dips in mood and motivation.
Spending time outside each morning without sunglasses allows your eyes to absorb the beneficial light signals that help regulate hormones and energy throughout the day. Just ten to twenty minutes of natural light can reset your body clock and lift your mood. Here we dive deeper into the science behind full-spectrum sunlight, how it affects mood, hormones, and energy, and simple ways to bring more real light into your day.
Daylight Computer for Kids
A healthier kind of screen time (no more #iPadkids!)
We’ve been using the new Daylight Kids tablet lately, and I’ve been really impressed. Most screens are built to keep kids (and adults) hooked, but this company actually went out of their way to build a product that is low stimulation by design. It's weird to say, but it's a device that actually feels calm...and for my kids, it makes all the difference because it actually supports their educational progress.
The screen looks and feels like paper, similar to a Kindle, but the Daylight has a full-fledged custom Android-based operating system...so kids can do their homework, watch educational videos, sketch, draw, read, and more. The tablet is blue light-free, has zero flicker, and no glare, so it’s easy on their eyes and totally usable outdoors. It’s been great watching the kids use it without all of the overstimulation that usually comes with tech.
Daylight Kids software also has super simple parental controls and blockers ads and social media. I personally feel like screen time is a problem that every parent is struggling to navigate, so it is really exciting to see solutions emerging in this space
Brands I’m Loving:
I’ve been using the Wellnesse Toothpaste, and it’s a refreshing change from the usual stuff loaded with questionable ingredients. Instead of fluoride, it uses hydroxyapatite—the same mineral that makes up your teeth—to help naturally strengthen and even repair small cavities. It’s gentle, non-toxic, and supports a healthy oral microbiome. | Wellnesse Whitening Toothpaste |

The Light You Need Might Not Be in Your Home
Most people assume fatigue means they need more caffeine, more sleep, or a better diet. But there’s another piece to the puzzle: light. Not just any light, but the right kind. The kind our biology has depended on for millions of years.
3 Hidden Toxins Every Teen Should Avoid
Teenagers today face more challenges than ever: academic pressure, social media, insufficient sleep, and stress. But one thing that’s often overlooked is the invisible layer of toxins that surrounds them daily. From personal care products to the food they eat and even the clothes they wear, modern teens are exposed to chemicals that can quietly interfere with their hormones, mood, and development.
Your Cotton T-Shirt Might Not Be as “Clean” as You Think
When you pull on a soft cotton t-shirt, it feels natural, light, breathable, and harmless. Cotton has always been marketed as the pure choice. But here’s the truth that most people never hear: by the time that t-shirt hits the shelf, it may have been through dozens of chemical baths that leave it anything but natural. And none of those chemicals are required to be listed on the label.
The Hidden Truth Behind Your Sea Salt
Sea salt has become one of those pantry staples that everyone assumes is a healthier choice. It sounds natural, it’s from the ocean, and it’s packed in sleek, minimalist containers that look pure and clean. But not all sea salts are created equal, and some can actually be a hidden source of toxins.
Non-Toxic Tip of the Week
Ditch the Sunglasses
Eyes are designed to receive light naturally. When sunglasses are worn all the time, the body misses the natural signals that morning sunlight sends to set the internal clock. Light entering the eyes helps regulate cortisol, serotonin, and melatonin, which influence mood, energy, and sleep. Blocking that light disrupts the circadian rhythm, making it harder to feel alert during the day or unwind at night.
Getting your sunlight in the morning is especially powerful for signaling the brain that it is daytime. All you have to do is step outside for 10 to 20 minutes without sunglasses, allowing the natural light to reach your eyes and skin. Never stare directly at the sun, but lightly squinting and facing it, even with your eyes closed, allows the body to register the full spectrum of light. Eyes naturally adapt to brightness over time, and hormone balance, mood, and focus often improve as the body reconnects with natural light cues.
My Go-To Full-Spectrum Light Therapy Lamp
I recently switched to the BioLight™ BR30 Bulb from Block Blue Light, and it’s been a solid upgrade for our home. It’s flicker-free, low EMF, and offers three light settings that actually make sense for how the day flows. Day Mode keeps things bright and natural, Mixed Mode adds that cozy warmth in the evening, and Night Mode gives off a soft amber glow that doesn’t mess with sleep. It’s rare to find a light that’s both healthy and practical, but this one nails it. No harsh blue light at night, no eye strain during the day—just clean, natural illumination that helps the whole family feel more balanced. | |

Maple Glazed Roasted Delicata Squash
As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s the perfect time to celebrate seasonal vegetables that feel festive without the fuss. Delicata squash is one of those underrated gems that deserves a spot on the holiday table. It’s easy to prep, beautiful to serve, and naturally sweet, making it a perfect pairing with savory dishes. When roasted with a touch of real maple syrup and a hint of spice, it becomes tender, golden, and irresistible.
This simple recipe keeps things wholesome and flavorful using only clean, non-toxic ingredients. Whether you’re hosting the family feast or bringing a side dish to share, this maple-glazed delicata squash will fit right in among your classic Thanksgiving favorites.
This Week on Social Media, I talked about:
Before You Go…
As the days grow shorter (I hope everyone is adjusting to the recent time change), every bit of sunlight counts. Be sure to let natural light reach your eyes and skin as much as possible to lift your mood, boost energy, and support better sleep. Pair that with nourishing seasonal foods like my cozy delicata squash recipe, and enjoy the reflective time of cooler, shorter, darker days with a warm sprinkle of cinnamon.
