Non-Toxic Dad News: August 15, 2024
Hello, Non-Toxic Friends,
It’s no secret that the medical field constantly evolves, with new research and evidence always emerging. Yet, many modern doctors and health practitioners fall behind, relying on outdated advice—sometimes by decades. Instead of actively seeking out the latest research, some simply take their cues from drug reps, leading to recommendations that may not align with a non-toxic lifestyle.
Understanding that a doctor who isn’t committed to staying current with research could inadvertently put your health and wellness at risk is crucial. This is especially concerning when striving for a healthier, non-toxic lifestyle for yourself and your family.
Most doctors genuinely want to help their patients, but good intentions aren’t enough if they’re not keeping up with the latest medical science. It’s crucial to have a healthcare professional who goes the extra mile to stay informed.
Are you curious about how up-to-date your doctor is? Try asking them:
How many medical publications have they read in the last month?
Who keeps them informed about the latest research and findings? (If their answer is a drug rep, there’s a good chance Big Pharma is influencing their advice).
If you're committed to non-toxic living, having an informed and trustworthy physician is a must. Their knowledge and guidance could be the key to achieving and maintaining a healthy, non-toxic lifestyle for you and your family.

Blog Spotlights:
Is Your Doctor Keeping Up with the Latest Research?
In the fast-paced world of medical advancements, staying informed is crucial, particularly for those striving to maintain a non-toxic lifestyle. Unfortunately, many doctors and healthcare practitioners may not be as up-to-date as we hoped. Instead of diving into the latest studies and research, some rely on advice and guidelines that may be decades old—or worse, they lean heavily on information provided by pharmaceutical representatives. This practice can harm your health and well-being, especially if you’re committed to reducing toxic exposures in your life.
The Outdated American Diabetes Association Food Pyramid
The American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Health Pyramid, once a widely accepted guide for managing diabetes through diet, is now seen by many as outdated and ineffective. The dietary landscape has evolved significantly, and even experts can no longer agree on what constitutes a “healthy diet.” In fact, the ADA’s current food pyramid, promoted as a method to “manage diabetes,” has been largely debunked by contemporary nutritional science.
The Hidden Dangers of Lead in Sea Salt
Sea salt is often touted as a healthier alternative to table salt, favored for its natural trace minerals and more complex flavor profile. However, recent findings have raised serious concerns about the safety of some popular sea salt brands. Alarmingly, many of these salts contain levels of lead that far exceed what is considered safe for daily consumption. This issue is particularly concerning given the widespread use of sea salt in cooking and seasoning, making it a potential health risk for many families.
Non-Toxic Tip of the Week: Vet Your Doctor’s Sources

Checklist for Ensuring Your Doctor is Up-to-Date:
Ask about their reading habits:
How many medical journals have they read in the last month?
Inquire about their sources of information:
Who informs them about new research and medical advancements?
Discuss their approach to continuing education:
Are they actively attending relevant courses, conferences, or workshops?
Evaluate their openness to new research:
How do they respond when you bring up recent studies or alternative approaches?
Use this checklist to ensure your healthcare provider is committed to staying current and aligned with your non-toxic lifestyle goals.
Non-Toxic Recipe of the Week: Cortisol Lowering Spray

Cortisol, often called the "stress hormone," plays a vital role in our body’s response to stress. However, when cortisol levels remain elevated for extended periods, it can harm our health. High cortisol can lead to increased blood pressure, as it causes the blood vessels to constrict and the heart to pump faster. Over time, this can strain the cardiovascular system, leading to hypertension. Additionally, chronic high cortisol levels can contribute to weight gain, weakened immune function, and increased risk of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. Managing cortisol levels is essential for maintaining overall health and well-being.
This DIY cortisol-lowering spray combines the soothing properties of essential oils to help you manage stress naturally. Incorporate it into your daily routine for a non-toxic way to promote calm and balance.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup distilled water
1/2 cup witch hazel (alcohol-free)
10 drops steam-distilled lavender essential oil
10 drops steam-distilled frankincense essential oil
10 drops steam-distilled bergamot essential oil
5 drops steam-distilled chamomile essential oil
One teaspoon magnesium oil (optional for added relaxation)
A small glass spray bottle (preferably amber or cobalt blue to protect the oils)
Instructions:
Prepare Your Spray Bottle:
Start by thoroughly cleaning and drying your glass spray bottle.
Mix the Ingredients:
Pour the distilled water and witch hazel into the spray bottle.
Add the essential oils: lavender, frankincense, bergamot, and chamomile.
If using, add the magnesium oil for an extra calming boost.
Shake Well:
Secure the spray bottle lid and shake well to mix all the ingredients.
Usage:
Spray the mixture onto your pulse points (wrists, neck) or lightly mist your pillow before bed. Breathe deeply as the calming essential oils help to naturally lower cortisol levels and promote relaxation.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dark place and shake well before each use.
